Here's where I stopped to say goodbye to Colorado: at the CO/NE border.
The skies cleared after a morning of fog and a cold rain.
The autumn colors of the surrounding prairie were sharply defined in the setting sunlight. The sky was glowing with cirrus clouds and jet contrails.
At no time during the nine years I have lived in Colorado have I not been regularly brought to my knees by the beauty found in the state of Colorado.
The evening felt like my parting gift from a state that I love.
When I climbed into the van that morning I still wasn't sure of where I was going. As I turned the key to start the van I decided to follow the Mississippi River valley down to Kentucky. I'll meet up with the valley in central Iowa so I can again visit Prairie du Chien in Wisconsin and the town of Guttenberg in Iowa. Both of them river towns with long histories.
